holiday fitness
challenge
What is it?
The Mostly Well Holiday Fitness Challenge is designed to offset the gluttony of the holiday season, which has impacts on our health beyond our weight. In fact, more people die of heart attacks in December than any other month, and while we don’t know why this happens, a cardiologist at Mt. Sinai Hospital System reasonably infers that holiday overindulgence has something to do with it. Staying active during the holidays can lower your blood pressure, reduce stress, stabilize your blood sugar, and help you maintain a healthy weight—all things that make your heart happier. And we’d all rather be happy than sick this holiday season!
What You'll Win:
Everyone who hasn't been consistently exercising will win a stronger version of themselves after this challenge, and that is more important than any prize I can give you. But in addition to a stronger you, the winner I select will receive $75 of Mostly Well merchandise.
How to Sign Up
Email lisa@mostly-well.com by November 1 to let me know you're planning to do the challenge. Include a "before" photo of yourself and tell me what you're hoping to accomplish during this challenge.
Rules
There are only five simple rules to the Holiday Fitness Challenge. You can do this!
Complete the "How to Sign Up" instructions above.
Complete 3 strength training sessions that are at least 30 minutes long each week, from November 1 through December 31. Mostly Well offers on-demand strength training sessions here; flexibility videos don't count, although they will help reduce soreness.
On the remaining days of the week, focus on cardio, aim to complete at least 2 hours of aerobic exercise per week. For example, this can mean a brisk 30-minute walk on each of the four days you do not strength train, or two 1-hour runs during the week, or 3 45-minute boxing or spin classes during the week.
Partial weeks: Since the challenge starts on a Friday, you can pick your poison (strength and/or cardio) for the first two days, but aim to complete 1 total hour of exercise between November 1 & 2. Similarly, since the challenge ends on a Tuesday, aim to complete 1.5 hours of exercise between December 29 & 31.
By January 5, email me an "after" photo of yourself and tell me what changes you've seen in your body and how you feel. I'll use this info to select a winner!
