My Favorite Natural moisturizers For Dry Winter Skin
I try to use beauty products that don’t have a lot of chemicals or known toxins, because I don’t believe our bodies are equipped to process hundreds of chemicals a day. I’m constantly on the hunt for natural beauty products that work as well as the synthetic stuff, and it’s not always easy, but moisturizers are one area of the cosmetic industry that offer a lot of effective natural options. Here are the moisturizers I’ve come to love after years of experimenting with natural products:
Herbivore Jasmine Body Oil
This stuff is so luxurious, I feel fancy when I put it on. The scent is sophisticated and light, and the oil absorbs into your skin after a few minutes, so it doesn’t leave you feeling greasy for long. I use it on my arms and décolletage to relieve that winter itch, or if my skin is looking dull and I want to achieve a youthful glow. I always add a little extra to my elbows, which need more moisture to avoid looking dry.
Herbivore’s body oil has a refreshingly short list of natural ingredients so you won’t have to wonder what you’re putting on your skin, and it comes in pretty minimalist packaging that you’ll want on display in your bathroom. The $44 price point is a little steep, but a 4 oz. bottle usually lasts me quite a few months.
Pacifica Body Butter
This rich shea butter-based lotion is an immediate fix for parched winter skin, and it’s what I’d recommend if your skin is dry from head to toe. Island Vanilla seems to be the most readily available and is a cozy scent for the colder months, but I’m a fan of other Pacifica scents as well. While the list of ingredients is longer than Herbivore’s body oil, there’s nothing too scary in there. This more affordable natural lotion is a staple in my bathroom all year round.
Dr. Haushka Rose Day Cream
I found this face cream last year after researching J-Lo’s beauty routine, and oh my gosh, y’all. While I can’t explain why Jennifer Lopez looks half her age, I may have at least found the secret to her glow. This stuff is very thick, gentle, and hydrating. It does leave you shiny and my skin is already oily, so I reserve this for nighttime, or on days where my face is dry I mix in a little with my sunscreen. In spite of the oil-based formula, it has never made me break out. And I absolutely love the light rose scent.
J.R. Watkins Lemon Cream Hand Cream
Another shea butter-based cream, this thick lotion is perfect for dry, cracked hands, and it smells like delicious lemon pound cake. I feel like I’m always washing my hands to prevent COVID-19, which exacerbates the usual winter dryness, so I keep a bottle in my purse and in my kitchen. When I put it on, it diminishes the appearance of the fine lines that are developing on my hands as I age, leaving them baby soft and looking ten years younger. I also rub it into my cuticles and the skin around my nails to keep my nails looking healthy.
Don’t forget that the most important step to retaining moisture in your skin is drinking enough water! And while I would never tell anyone to stop indulging in the simple pleasures of life like coffee and wine, it wouldn’t hurt to pay attention to how much you’re consuming as caffeine and alcohol both dehydrate your body, which shows up in your skin.
